There Is A Scripture - King Henry

My daughter and grandson are spending some time with a friend out in Colorado and so it falls to my wife and me to look after King Henry. King Henry is a rather large cat that my daughter got for my grandson some years ago, actually for him to love on and be important to my grandson, a pet he could play with, and would be his sleeping companion. It’s all worked out that way even though this cat came from a shelter and was not with my grandson from a kitten. Every night that big fur ball sleeps, curled up right next to my grandson. The first couple days I would go to their house at feeding time and make sure that was taken care of but he was spending the entire day and night alone. My wife would tell me to show him some attention so I said hello to him when I went in, fed him, a little scratch behind the ears and down his back, then good bye and left. Well after a couple days we figured let's bring him to our house for the day so he wouldn’t be lonely. And that worked… for less than a day. Once he had explored the place it was a constant meowing and if you went towards the door he followed. Finally we figured he just wanted to be home. So one morning after I had brought him down and he started, I picked him up and took him home. His bowls for food and water are in my grandson’s bedroom and that evening at feeding time I took his food to my grandson’s room and as I walked in the dark quiet room I realized the room had a unique smell to it. No, not cat smell. It was the scent of my grandson and just standing there for a moment it was intense to me and I thought “That’s why Henry wants to be here. The scent of his master fills this place. Here is where he is at home.” Now cats are funny. When my grandson comes home and walks in, Henry will probably make a slow walk through the room, acknowledge my grandson’s presence with a slight turn of the head as if to say “Oh… so you finally decided to come home did you.” then walk on, but I believe, fully expecting Andrew to chase him down, pick him up and love on him. And that night when my grandson lays down and falls asleep, Henry will settle in right there next to him. Our Master came for a time but then left us for a time. He explained, “…I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also.”    John 14:2-4 AKJV He also said: “I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever… …I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you…”                               John 14:16,18 AKJV The scent of our Redeemer and Father is unique. If we walk in His Word and listen to His Spirit it fills the space we are in and will, until That Day when He comes, not home but to take us home. The scent of our Master and the familiarity, comfort and assurance it gives us will have to be Presence and home enough for now, no matter where we are and by faith and sure hope, Word and Spirit, it is. On a contrasting note, notice the difference between cats and dogs. When the master returns at the end of the day or after days away, the dog is waiting at the window dancing as the door opens, rolling submissively on their back, tail wagging the body. “I’m so glad to see you! Pet me! Let’s play!” I think the difference between cats and dogs is that cats may “worship” but dogs “praise and worship”. Just a thought. Father, thank You for that of You that You have given us for now. May Your scent fill our atmosphere. May we watch and wait in it till You appear. May it be a fragrance on us that comes off us and fills the nostrils of those who have not known that scent before and may it draw them to You. May when You appear we be joyful in upward praise, acknowledging, submissive, bowed and reverential, in worship, before You, Sovereign, all powerful Master, all knowing One, Merciful and Kind, Father and Friend. In Yeshua’s name we pray, Amen. May God’s love be in us all. Elder
