2nd Day Prayer

“…you know at what point of history we stand; so it is high time for you to rouse yourselves from sleep; for the final deliverance is nearer than when we first came to trust…”  Romans 13:11 CJB

Father, drama and turmoil are everywhere and on such a grand scale, and it is disturbing, seriously disturbing. From our individual perspective and circumstances, we find ourselves thinking the problems are too big.

So all too often, we take the attitude that there is nothing we can do that will solve these issues. And we redirect our focus to things we feel we can have an effect on… that we can accomplish… can do something about. Many times, those things turn out to be closer to self… more immediately gratifying… maybe require less sacrifice. The upset that should lead to a sense of urgency and then on to some plan of action that may not have appeal,  is lulled to sleep.

Our prayer, Father, is that somehow a sense of urgency, that calls for some kind of action, would be alive and present in us.

May that sense of urgency spring up in us because we have in us a love for our fellow human beings and deep concern for their eternal well-being… that goes beyond feelings… to actions.

It may be in some, but not everyone has that love for others that actually makes them feel they are their brother’s keeper, that they do have some degree of responsibility for their well-being, and actually moves them to demonstrate it.

This, I believe, is a love that only You have, that comes from You, and only You can plant and grow it in us… if we are to have it at all.

So maybe the prayer really is Father, that You would plant in us Your love for Your created beings… our human brothers and sisters… that would arouse in us a sense of urgency on their behalf and that that sense of urgency would never fall asleep… for time is indeed short, and too many of us are asleep.

In Yeshua’s name we pray…

Amen.
